Fantasy Baseball

(No, it\’s not quite what you\’re thinking.)

It\’s May, so I\’ve bothered to look at the American League standings. I\’m intrigued by what I see. Let me explain. I skew towards the AL Central, where the Twins are on top, but the Tigers are playing some decent ball. The other three teams in the Central, and the entirety of the AL West look average at best. Out East, the Yankees and Red Sox have solid teams, and the Tampa Bay Rays have the best record in the League.

Now follow along. If the Twins and Tigers can beat up on the rest of their division and the West, and the three teams in the East knock each other around some, we could see the Rays as Division Champs, and the Tigers as the Wild Card.

A post-season without the Yanks and the Sawks. That\’s good for everyone but FOX, which of course means it\’s good for everyone.

The Tigers have some guys who can pound the bejeezus out of the ball, and their pitchers Verlander and Zumaya throw hard…but after watching the Tiger defense give the Twins a ton of extra outs, they really need to shore up their defensive work.

I’m going to have to disagree with you on the Red Sox having a “solid team”. Obviously some injuries are part of that, but comparing them to the Yankees, the Yanks are better at nearly every position. Hell, even the Twins are better at most positions.

Howard seems to have a shine for the Yanks as well… for the record, I hope you are right… but I just don’t see the Tigers getting it done…
