Equal Time

I came across a very interesting Rolling Stone article today on John McCain.

What I liked about the article is that it heavily relies on comments from fellow conservatives/Republicans as well as people who know John McCain personally. Very well written, very well researched… and quite chilling. It\’s long, but definitely worth your time.

In an effort to give equal \”negative\” time to each candidate, I went off to search for an article that would be equally thoughtful and critical of Barack Obama.

So I started looking, and one could certainly use this to advance the theory of \”the liberal media\”, but I had a hard time finding anything that was:
a) well thought out and well researched
b) published by any sort of respectable publication

The first thing I found was this article by Carol Platt Liebau. Now she may have an impressive sounding background, but when the best article you can write as a conservative pundit against Barack Obama contains nothing more than that last three political email forwards I\’ve received from my mother-in-law; and all of them can either be proved wrong or clarified by a quick check of snopes.com… well, then you suck as a writer. In addition, I\’m not sure that realclearpolitics.com can be considered \”respectable\” by any stretch of the imagination.

A second article from the same website was also quite non-informative, but I did find one sentence/paragraph that intrigued me: Why much of the public and the media have been so mesmerized by the words and the image of Obama, and so little interested in learning about the factual reality, was perhaps best explained by an official of the Democratic Party: \”People don\’t come to Obama for what he\’s done, they come because of what they hope he can be.\”
I agree… and what does that say about the voting public? The American people are so desperate for something different that they are ready to gamble on a charismatic and unproven candidate. That isn\’t an indictment of the voters, but of politics in general, as well as the last 8 years.

So does anyone have a link they could share that is a thoughtful critique of Obama (the man or his politics)? Because I can\’t find anything.
