don\’t be a scrooge

wadE forward one of those \”put down your answer and forward to your friends\” e-mails today about Christmas. instead of forwarding back to a bunch of people, i thought i\’d just post answers here. hey, easy way to get something fresh on the site! woo!

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags?

wrapping paper. i\’m terrible at it but i love to do it.

2. Real tree or artificial?

real. begrudgingly. i will admit that real trees are nicer, but the difference in maintenance doesn\’t make up that margin.

3. When do you put up the tree?

ideally, the weekend after thanksgiving. *never* before.

4. When do you take the tree down?
usually after new year\’s eve.

5. Do you like eggnog?

sorta? one time when i was visiting sara\’s family in NY and went to a neighbor\’s house for a christmas party. the eggnog had so much liquor in it that it burned my nose and throat. it\’s been a sketchy relationship ever since then. (with the eggnog, not with sara.)

6. Favorite gift received as a child?

hmm. either this or this

7. Do you have a nativity scene?

oddly, no. hopefully i won\’t be removed from the church council for this.

8. Hardest person to buy for?

my mom

9. Easiest person to buy for?

tie between sara and my dad.

10. Worst Christmas gift ever received?

let me preface this by saying that my grandma is the most wonderful, sweet women on the planet. that said, for a stretch of nearly a decade i would receive a package of men\’s white hankerchiefs each year from her. not sure if you know this, but i\’m really not into the idea of blowing my nose into something and then putting said something back in my pocket until the next round.

11. Mail or email Christmas card?

mail.

12. Favorite Christmas Movie?

Scrooged

12a. Favorite Christmas TV Special?

this was pretty tough. in the end, \”A Charlie Brown Christmas\” narrowly edged out \”Olive the Other Reindeer.\”

13. When do you start shopping for Christmas?

beginning of december.

14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present?

not that i\’m going to admit to!

15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas?

my mom\’s chili. oh, and pretzels covered in almond bark.

16. Clear lights or colored on the tree?

multi-color, baby.

17. Favorite Christmas song?

\”Blue Christmas,\” Elvis Presley.

18. Travel at Christmas or stay home?

travel, but all local. travel up to sara\’s parents\’ lake place (sometimes) for christmas eve, then down to austin on christmas day.

19. Can you name Santa\’s reindeer?
thanks to gene autry, the names are burned into my brain. i have been referred to multiple times as \”blitzen\” during holiday gatherings.

20. Do you have an Angel on top or a star?

angel.

21. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning?

yes. 🙂

22. Most annoying thing about this time of year?

tie: a) commercialism of christmas and 2) parking lots.

Will Bill Gates give me $100 for responding to this post?

I do like the idea of calling Wade “Blitzen”, however. I may have to adopt that year-round.

    Not really apropos, but whatever…
I have on an internet radio station that’s basically like 80s/90s alt rock. The playlist just went KISS to Queen to Pedro Feliciano singing Feliz Navidad to RATT. I don’t know why people think that putting in a random Christmas song at this time of year is automatically a good idea, and that particular playlist is a shining example of why *not* to do it. Heh.

    Correction:
*Jose* Feliciano, not Pedro. Dunno where my head was at with that one.

A shameless plug for myself: http://blondebombchelle.blogspot.com/2007/12/christmas-survey.html

I would like to draw wadE’s attention to answer number 9. Wives shouldn’t be hard to shop for, you live with us!

I’m with you on the battle hovercraft – that looks awesome. But a speak and spell? Really?

We do have a nativity scene…we have put it on our mantle every year for the past six years. I’m not sure which is worse as far as the church council is concerned…not having a nativity scene, or having one and not knowing it.
    (comment by Sara…not Wade)
