Lynne Cheney: Pervert

Did anyone else catch the recent flap about Lynne Cheney\’s book Sisters?

Apparently she wrote the book wayyy back in 1981, but I came across a Huffington Post article that led me to another website that  led me back to Huffington Post for this article that has the transcript of a Wolf Blitzer interview with the VPs wife.

That\’s comedy.  Let that be a lesson to any young writers out there, your books can come back to haunt you later in life.

Personally I find the whole thing amusing.  Especially when Republicans get a taste of the tactics a certain group of them have used for the past 15 years or so.  I\’d normally argue that this shouldn\’t have any bearing on politics and there is no good reason to harass Lynne Cheney on this; but that went out the window as soon as her husband and the president started campaigning on their personal beliefs instead of real issues.  If you are going to campaign on a platform based on keeping a segment of society from having certain legal privileges based on sexual orientation, and you have a daughter who is a lesbian and a wife who\’s written a book on lesbian love… well maybe that is something of note afterall.

This should be about as much of an issue as John Kerry’s failed attempts at humor. Sadly, we haven’t lived in such ideal times for some years now.

Remember when Wellstone ran a campaign based on what he was going to do if elected? Those were good times.

    i hate politics.
our favorite dipshit at the strib, of course, has the kerry story covered:
    http://www.startribune.com/blogs/kersten/?p=31
he flubbed the line. everyone, including the republicans know that– kerry may be ham-handed, but would never insult troops like that. idiots like kersten and gil gutknecht are so damn condescending to think that anyone would believe otherwise. (please note that i don’t think democrats would do anything different, if the situation was reversed.)

Hasselbitch doesn’t seem to be helping the Kerry matter either: http://www.tmz.com/2006/11/01/elisabeth-calls-sen-kerry-mel-without-the-booze/ .

Back on Mrs. Cheney, my favorite quote of hers so far is “I have never written anything sexually explicit.” (http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/10/29/cheney.lynne.novel/index.html )

Speaking of favorite quotes, this continues to be a favorite of mine:
    http://www.whitehouse.gov/g8/interview5.html
THE PRESIDENT: We found the weapons of mass destruction. We found biological laboratories. You remember when Colin Powell stood up in front of the world, and he said, Iraq has got laboratories, mobile labs to build biological weapons. They’re illegal. They’re against the United Nations resolutions, and we’ve so far discovered two. And we’ll find more weapons as time goes on. But for those who say we haven’t found the banned manufacturing devices or banned weapons, they’re wrong, we found them.

Oops. Honestly, I’m surprised this transcript hasn’t met with the scalpel after all this time.
