My brain really wanted to read this as a parody. To be fair, it would be a brilliant parody in the right hands. However, this is also a wonderful interview. I like that Elton seems to be in the know about current hip hop artists, and I think it’s a fantastic bit of male role modeling that the interview ends with both of them telling each other that they love them.
JOHN: I always say to people, “If you don’t understand hip-hop, you just have to see it being recorded.” When you’re in the studio—and I’ve seen you record, I’ve been on Kanye West and A Tribe Called Quest records—it’s a completely different ballgame. I get upset when people knock it, because I can absolutely see the musicality in it.
