Per usual go here and come back.

The highlights are:

At least five new hotel/condo developments are planned for the Twin Cities area and Duluth in the coming months. "Everything you need in life -- food, exercise and entertainment -- is encapsulated within your home," said John Wanninger, who is marketing the Westin Edina Galleria Residences. They will include an 18-story condo tower next to a luxury hotel.

these projects keep the hotel rooms and the condo units completely separate, but they make all the hotel amenities available to the condo owners and their guests.

The project's "Botticelli" model, for example, will have about 1,500 square feet and cost $700,000 to $750,000 with a monthly association fee of at least $600, not including a la carte services bought from the hotel.

And my favorite bit:

What's driving this trend? "What it really says is that people want everything from their home," said Nicholas Lakas, director of portfolio management for Westin. "People always love to go to a hotel, and if they've had really great service, they hate to leave. These provide that environment all the time."

Yes, that's right. Now you can more or less live in a hotel. They offer maid service, a concierge (who will walk your dog), and room service!

I'm actually quite curious to where this is being built in Edina. It says it will be next to the Galleria... but which side? Target on one side, Southdale on another. It leaves a residental block and a commercial block on the west and east sides.

At any rate, I'm not sure whether to think this is genius, or deride the idea mercilessly.

You be the judge...
