So I saw an ad on the side of a bus the other day that really made me take notice. The details are irrelevant, but the punchline (as it were) was that
you should remember to call 1-800-DIAL-DUI when you get picked up for the drunk driving, because this guy/team/firm really wants to help you out with that.
I think what the ad doesn't explicitly say speaks volumes. It says, without saying, that there have been enough DUI cases that it has become profitable to
advertise for providing a service just for that. They're not advocating themselves for any other services, just DUI cases. And I have to assume that they
wouldn't do it if there weren't profit enough in it to cover the cost of advertising and then some.
And what that says is that there are far too many people out there driving drunk. It really doesn't take that much to kill someone in an automobile -
if we've reached the point where there are so many drunkards on the road that lawyers are targeting them, then it's a lot less safe out there then we all realize.
So next time you've had a few drinks, think about calling a cab. Or plan ahead enough that you've got a designated driver, or at the very least know your limits,
and be conservative in that estmiate. Life's too short.
