No More Excuses

A little more Vikings talk on a chilly wednesday.

Yesterday Wade talked about ditching Randy Moss to help the team. Most of us disagree with trading Moss. His antics are distracting, but the Vikings have much bigger problems.

In the forum I talked about how on the drive home from work I was listening to KFAN and heard that the team didn't have their workouts outside on Monday because the field was frozen over, and the team didn't want to spend the money to have a company come out and thaw the field so they could practice in the elements in preparation for the trip to Green Bay.

That's a problem.

Today's Strib article on the Vikes highlight another problem. No, not the penalties, the inexperience of our coaches and this mumbo-jumbo about the team being too tight... no wait, now their too loose... no, too tight... I mean too loose... er...

What kind of excuses are these? Let's face the facts. The Vikings have had several key injuries this year that have hampered their offense (Kleinsasser, Rosenthal, Birk, Moss, etc.). They were unable to figure out until recently who the best defensive performers were, failed to find an adequate replacement for Ken Irvin, played yo-yo with Chris Hovan, and never found a linebacker who could play consistent and smart. This is a team that is 1-5 against teams with winning records.

But with all of that said, this is a team that could make the NFC Championship!?!

Believe it or not! Green Bay has been far from consistent this year. They have shown to be beatable at home, in the cold, that last two years. And we all know the trouble Philly has had in the playoffs.

Of course all the Vikings need to do is to play two solid defensive games, not make mistakes on offense, and get a few of those patented Favre interceptions.

Sadly, I think I'd rather seem them lose to force someone in the front office (cough...Red...ahem) to do something about the lack of talent and under-use of the salary cap.

Skol Vikings!
