Frozen Tastes

After reading Wade's latest article, specifically the part about music, I smiled.

Finally even Wade has joined me in my move to young curmudgeon. The last CD I purchased was Metallica's St. Anger... before that... wow... hmmmm... I'm not sure the purchase was made in this millenium.

It helps that I cohabitate with someone who is addicted to music, but even then, my music is strictly segregated from hers.

My music tastes stopped evolving sometime around 1994. After grundge, what has there been that's worth listening to? (ok, at least for a white guy like me who doesn't like country music)

10 years ago the top song was "I Swear" by All 4 One? Oy! And you wonder why I stopped listening to new music.

Ok, that isn't true. I've been a fairly avid FM radio listener since then, and honestly have liked a lot of what I have heard (mostly from 105.1/5/7). The problem is that very few bands have prompted me to actually consider a CD purchase. I've been content to just wait for their song to come back on again.

Just like my hairstyle, my music tastes have stopped evolving. While I enjoy 3 Doors Down, I would probably enjoy listening to R.E.M. more. And that scares me.

How far off am I from locking in my clothing preferences? Have I done it already? Do people look at me and think "that shirt is so 90's" in the same way we see old men and laugh at their slacks that are from the 60's?

Maybe it's a natural progression. As long as I enjoy what I'm listening to, isn't that the most important thing? Maybe if someone came out with an entire album worth listening to, I would considering buying it. Who knows... until then I'm confident in that I'm not missing out on much.

Oh, and Wade, it's ok to like Ted... he's my favorite from Queer Eye too.
