Welcome to Friday. Fridays are officially "lazy day" on the Gambit. (Yes, you could argue that we take the same tact on Monday-Thursday, but let's see you try to come up with something creative twice a week. OK, maybe it's not that hard. I'm rambling.)

Anyone who has been around me for more than a minute is likely aware that I was born and raised in Austin, MN. Since I usually bring this fact up within the first minute of conversation with anyone I meet, you could say that I have a little pride in my hometown. (Cue the Springsteen, please.) Despite its quirks, I think it's a fine place. But today let's look at the quirks.

For fun, I searched for "austin mn" on Google's image search. (Yes, I'm a nerd.)

The requisite SPAM shot. This, of course, is the live action version of the pseudomeat, named "Spammy." I graduated with the guy who used to play Spammy Lite, Spammy's powder-blue, low-fat counterpart. I wonder if he needed therapy.

Of course, followed by the requesite SPAM museum shot. From some girl's blog, saying it was the highlight of her cross-country roadtrip last summer. Poor her. I wonder if it would make her feel better or worse knowing that the SPAM museum is actually the old K-Mart. The "vintage" SPAM museum, naturally, was found in...

...the Oak Park Mall. Oh, the hours I wasted in my teens at this commercial hell-hole. Thankfully I spent most of my money on video games. And hardcore rap tapes. (Ask for any lyric from Eazy-E's "Eazy Duz It", I dare you.)

Johnny Cash visited Austin in 1979. Who knew?

Old people from Austin. No, that's not Jason's dad.

Marcusen Park. Home to, among other things, the Austin Minny Stars-- a minor league baseball club that existed for a few years in the mid-90s. They were managed by former Brave and Twin catcher Greg Olson, and featured Senor Smoke himself, Juan Berenguer!!!

Oh lord. From the National Barrow Show. How much you wanna bet those pig butts got kissed later on in the evening.

OK, that didn't quite pan out. Too many pictures of SPAM, not enough of the cool things in Austin like.. um.. well, maybe you'll just have to visit. We never did photograph well.
