October is here...

Ahhh... the first day of October. A chill enters the air, the leaves begin to change, and post-season baseball is already upon us.

And it's a great time to be a sports fan here in Minnesota. There is optimism that the Timberwolves could actually get seeded high for the playoffs, and actually move to the second round...of course I'm not sure if the ugliest man in sports, a coach-choker, and a doofy bench-warmer from the Lakers will really be enough, but with Kobe heading to jail, who knows!

The Wild are coming off of a fantastic season showing that a old school team that plays tough defense, gets quality goaltending, and gets scoring from all positions can suceed in this age of multi-million dollar sticks-for-hire (I'm looking right at you Brett Hull).

The Gopher football team is even doing well. Of course their Notre Dame-esque strategy of playing cream puff non-conference teams takes away from that...it's still fun to think that we might not face up against Boise St. in the Checker Auto Parts Bowl.

The Vikings are undefeated, and are 3-0 in the NFC Norris. They've accomplished this by gathering what is arguably the best offensive line in the NFL, ran the ball hard, and passed when opposing defense have stacked up against the run. More surprisingly was the clinic that our secondary has put on this year. No one is predicting a Super Bowl victory, but the playoffs should be within reach!

Last, but certainly not least is the Twins. With a victory in over the Yankees the Twins showed that quality starting pitching and good defense can overcome $150-million payrolls. They say that in baseball the best team doesn't always win, but maybe the Twins will.

Yes, it's October...and it's all good!
