Grumpy Gambit

It's seventy-five and sunny out, and I'm locked in a closet with a ceiling two inches higher than my head. It's time for a rant or six pulled from the scrap heap for the Gambit today.

Remember a couple weeks ago when I told you the world was going to end? Well, the deadline has passed (unless that 'lunar eclipse' last night was just a cover story) and we're all still here. But our friends at PoleShiftPrepare.com still aren't convinced. Their site now proclaims "Up to 11 days left until the earth possibly stops rotating". In a related note, there's a sale at the furniture store. Possible savings of up to 95%, as compared to the 400% profit they normally make on you. I do appreciate the new, more modest, doomsday prediciton.

Up to 8 hours left until wadE possibly says something negative about Sergei Zholtok! Film at 11.

I'm actually starting to feel sorry for the voice actors from The Simpsons. I went to see 'A Mighty Wind' last night... it was a pretty good flick. Harry Shearer was in it, and he had a great role, which he played well. The problem is, every time I heard his voice I thought "It's Principal Skinner!". Kinda rough for the guy... he was still hilarious, though. Ditto on the effect on everything Julie Kavner's ever been in. Sadly, her real voice isn't too far off from Marge Simpson.

Then again, they're all making the Hollywood "fat cash" (props to Jay and Silent Bob), so I don't really feel that sorry.

A quick check of Imdb.com tells me that Harry Shearer has an uncredited role in "Spaceballs" as a news broadcaster. I should watch that again to see if I can pick him out. Nothing says comedy like John Candy dressed as a dog named Barfolomew...

Scrolling further down the list, Shearer was also in "The Fish that Saved Pittsburgh". What a great movie. I should say that I actually haven't seen it, but it's been on my 'to do someday' list for a while now. There's just something inherently appealing about that Dr. J/Jonathan Winters pairing...

Are you guys sick of me yet? I've got at least three tangents ready to roll off that movie... but I'll cease and desist, and promise to come back with something moderately coherent for next week. Have a great weekend, and try to get outside if you're not strapped to Hell like I am. Peace.
