Movie Reviews Galore!

- Alex

Ok, so before I get started, I just wanna say a few words about this thing called Netflix. As though I needed one more thing to eat up my free time. I can see my Netflix movies right now, over there on the low table by the TV, and they're dancing - they're literally dancing! - asking me to watch them. And I know it's gonna be that way for each and every one that comes in the mail. It's great, really. Haha.

So in the interests of time, I'm just gonna do some little blurb reviews for the three movies in the review queue today. Let's rock.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind:

This. Movie. Rocks. The consensus review from the people I work with seems to be: It's an absolutely brilliant movie. And I don't even like Jim Carrey. Heh. But it's so true. This is Carrey's best acting job, hands down. He plays a character that's an oddball, but he doesn't go over the top with it. Kate Winslett is also very good at playing his odd girl love interest. Kirsten Dunst and Elijah Wood have supporting roles, so let the hobbit jokes fly.

I actually don't want to talk too much about the movie in an official review capacity. If you like a quirky little romantic film, go rent this. Now. If you want to read a little bit more about the flick, I'll set up a topic in the Entertainment part of The SP Forum. Click here.

On to the rating, where it's high praise time. One-half Trent.

Hero:

Yeah, so Mike and Kell dragged me to this one last weekend. Well, maybe it's not fair to say "dragged", since I didn't put up much of a fight, but Kung Fu movies just usually aren't my bag (despite my award-winning book: Supercalifraggilisticexpie-Kung-Fu-Docious: These kinds of movies really are my bag, baby). Jokes aside, this is a really good friggin' movie. It's the story of the leader of one of the seven provinces of China, and the assassins who are trying to kill him... point being, it's actually GOT a story. Far and away the best plot of any Kung Fu movie I've seen. The fight scenes (and I'll grudgingly agree with Trent in being a little disappointed) were a little bit more about style than substance, but since the movie overall was gorgeous to look at, it fits. I'm a big fan, and I may even have to see it again. We're gonna break out the big praise here, and give this a half-Trent.

Collateral:

Stop the presses - Trent and I actually went to a movie! First time in like... actually I couldn't tell you how long it'd been. We were gonna go see The Village, but it was only showing open-captioned, so we went to see this instead. Turned out to be a good choice. Tom Cruise was really good as the bad-guy hitman, and Jamie Foxx was fairly impressive too. The story was a little bland, and the FBI subplot didn't quite work, but overall it was a good action-movie time. Let's call it a Trent-and-a-half.

That's it for now, kids. Have fun at the movies!
