Week 3: Vikings vs. 49ers

Football wadE

I’m not the first to say it, but I certainly thought it shortly after yesterday’s Vikings game: It’s nice to be on the winning side of one of those after all these years.

In case you missed it, Brett Favre pulled off yet another miracle at the Metrodome, but this time it was for the guys in purple.

Caroling

Alex Internet Movies

I’m clearly a little off my game. A famous Hollywood icon1 passes, and it takes me a full nine days to realize that it’s a chance to run one of my favorite skits. Ah well, at least I did eventually think of it.

So, without further ado, let’s all gather ’round and let the boys on the Satellite of Love serenade us with a rendition of Let’s Have a Patrick Swayze Christmas, inspired by Crow’s favorite movie: Roadhouse. Call me crazy, but this may just be the Swayziest Christmas of them all.

P.S. Yes, I know it is a little early for Christmas music, but what the hey.

  1. Look, just repeat after me: Nobody puts Baby in a corner. Now try to tell me he’s not an icon.

Week 1: Vikings @ Browns

Had you asked me to predict the score of the Vikings vs. Browns game I might have said 34-13… which it would have been if not for the very late, garbage-time, touchdown by Cleveland. But I would have never guessed how the team would end up at that score.

The game started oddly with the Vikings opening kickoff being a failed onside kick. I hope that the Vikings saw something in film that led them to believe that a particular Browns player tended to bail early on kickoffs… but methinks it was just Childress trying to be cute to open the season against an inferior opponent. What is the point of doing that against an inferior opponent? Why give them the short field and give them a chance to put points up and feel good about themselves? An extremely low reward-high risk move, and yet another reason I can’t wait for Childress to get fired.

A tip from The King

Alex Sports

ESPN’s got a nice article up about Arnold Palmer turning 80, which is a good read for fans of golf, golf history, and/or Arnie. I’m struck by a quote from Jack about a tip that Arnie gave him:

“We were playing, and I chipped a ball from just off the green. He recommended that I putt the ball, saying that often your worst putt will still be better than your best chip. I still pass that along to players today.”

That is a good tip, and one that I wish I would have heard back when I was still playing competitively (or at least more than once a year).
